The Flake Story

Like fingerprints or snowflakes, no two Flake bars are the same!

History

Originally launched in 1920, Flake celebrates a history of 88 years!

Did you know that we have a Cadbury employee to thank for Flake? This wonderful, chocolate devotee was filling the chocolate moulds when her very cleverly noticed that once the moulds were full, the excess chocolate spilled over the edge and folded down in a stream of chocolate. The texture had many thin layers of chocolate and was very crumbly and flakey - and so the Flake was born!

The actual process for making the unique Flake form is a closely guarded secret. And, hard as they try, no other chocolate manufacturer has ever managed to recreate it. There'll only ever be one Flake!

Like fingerprints or snowflakes, no two Flake chocolate bars are the same.

Only the crumbliest, flakiest chocolate, tastes like chocolate never tasted before…

Flake's famous theme tune has been voted the third most memorable jingle of all time. The much loved tune was written by Ronnie Bond, one of the most successful jingle writers ever. He was also the creator of 'Tasty, tasty, very very tasty' and 'You can't get better than a Kwikfit fitter'. We still think the Flake tune is the best!

Iconic Advertising…

The 'Flake Girl' adverts are among the most memorable of all time. The early ads in the 1950s and 60s were in black and white, and had the slogan 'Sixpence-worth of Heaven'. At the time they were considered the sexiest sights on TV. Very racy!
